Fiancé Is A Weird Word

June 13, 2011

Us dating bloggers never really count on being successful.

I dated and dated for years and nothing ever seemed promising enough to convince me that I wasn’t just destined to end up alone with a cat and a blog 15 years from now.

I certainly never imagined I’d actually land a fiancé.

Then Mister Me eHarmonied his way into my life and suddenly I’m finding myself using option+e a lot more often.

Aside from the change in typing patterns (Like honestly? We couldn’t come up with an English word for it? I have to use the ´ all the time now? That’s Busch league.), life seems a little different now that we’re engaged.

This whole engagement period thing is basically the cocoon that our single-caterpillar selves created and from which we will emerge as one solitary butterfly.

It’s a time of transition, from being one to being one and also half of one.

The word “we” has become more acceptable. “We are interested in this,” “we’re looking for that,” “we would rather be out drinking,” etc.

Well it turns out that “we” don’t write a blog so well. Or maybe just not this blog.

I owe you snark and sass and stories of drunken blunders. But all I’ve got to give is happiness and homemaking and wedding planning*. Snooze.

So in an effort to spare you the flowery, sugar-drenched wedding blog, I must bid you adieu.

It has been an amazing year.5 and I will miss everysingleoneofyou. Even you lurkers that stop by daily and never comment, weirdos.

So farewell, kiddos. Date often and recklessly; it makes for good stories. Drink and eat and live and be happy. I’ll be doing the same.

Perhaps we will find each other again, one day, on a new blog with a new theme under a new pseudonym. I certainly hope so, I don’t think I know how to quit you.

*and the occasional drunken blunder.

I do not support this decision to rob us of your perspective, which i believe would be of equal value applied to dating, engagements, marriage, babies, in-laws, weddings, and a host of other unrelated subjects.

I beg you to see your blog as I (perhaps we?) see it: a witty and hilarious reflection of your life.

    Please reconsider.

    Please.

I couldn’t agree more with feliciacago. You are snarky & brilliant, and honestly, if I were to read ANYONE’S wedding blog, I’d want it to be yours.

Thirded. Yes, I just made up that word.

An engaged and an even wedded you doesn’t suddenly become boring and dull to read!

And wow, did it actually take one and a half years from point a (starting this blog) to point z (Mister Me and Bea engaged)? You give me so, so much hope.

You have called me out; me being a “weirdo lurker” 😉

So now that I’ve been called out, I’m here to join the chorus of begging:
PLEEEEAAASE don’t leave us and deprive us of your hilarity and wit!! We all know that any blog written by you would not fall into any cookie-cutter “flowery, sugar-drenched” style at all!

Agree!! Another “weirdo lurker” begging you to reconsider. You’re journey into married life and (maybe) babies will be just as fascinating! You are HILARIOUS!! 🙂

I completely agree. It’s single girls like me who need your insight on a daily basis! More posts are a necessary!

Best of luck! Hope you find the wedding planning process mostly fun and enjoyable (there are inevitable times when it’s not so much fun) and that the end result blows away all your expectations.

I hope you change your mind to keep blogging SOMEWHERE at least 🙂 I love how you write and it’ll be a break from the other crazy wedding blogs, yours would be sane. Plus, I couldn’t live without the drunken binge here or there!

Not going to lie, I am REALLY sad about this. REALLY. And I would love to read your take on wedding planning bc 1, I am a bit of a wedding sucker, and 2 your view, full of snark and hilarity, would make it just THAT much better. While I have a feeling you are far too happy and cheerful to come back, I will join the others and ask you to stay. This blog has been entirely too funny and real. If you stay gone, good luck, best wishes, and happy marriage to you both!!

    We miss you already.

And by “we” I mean “my cats and I.”

Suggest one of the girls is thinkking of dancing for money. The gods will cut her time severely if she does that.
Normally they would fight it, provide that temptation of denial, but they share they don’t, and it’s because she doesn’t have much coming anymore. With all the lifetimes of hedonism and deviacy this individual needs to clean herself up and live a life of decency and respectability. But being born as mom’s children should show them they’re near their ends already.
The theory is the English Monarchy provided for a killer who hunted the prostitutes of London, protecting men and the families of the city. JAck the Ripper was a hero.
Men are weak. Women are traditionally the enforcers of dececy. When they abandon this role and become corruptors of men may god have mercy on their souls. Expect this is the primary reason of the deterioration and decay of mankind.
