Meeting Mister Me

August 18, 2010

We were not as obnoxious as this.

Have you ever walked into a date and said to yourself, I recognize this person?

And not in the crap-I-think-I slept-with-this-dude-once-in-college way, but in the I-can-see-this-person’s-soul way?

Thursday I walked into my date and was greeted by a smiling, beer loving, small town transplanted,  hard working, harder partying, only child with a consulting job and a love of tacos, y’all. Eureka, I’ve met Mister Me!

We met at 7:30. We ordered at 10. Never in all my hundreds of first dates has conversation come so easily. Nothing felt out of bounds, nothing felt weird for a first date. We were instantly and immediately open with each other.

We ordered the same entree, don’t you hate it when couples do that? Then we sat and chatted until the restaurant was empty and our waitress was approaching suicidal.

I thought about leaving after dinner, it was a school night after all… But when Mister Me suggested hitting a hipster late night bar, I jumped. The chance to dance ironically with the skinny-jeansed ones to 90’s hip hop? Yes, please.

When we’d had our fill of The Chronic and Regulators (although, can you ever have your fill of those, really?) we headed back to his place.

Listen, I know, I know. But just chill because nothing happened. Besides some kisses.

Oh and this, turns out Mister Me? He’s doing quite well for himself. I’m talking one of those places where the elevator opens right up into his living room and there’s a temperature controlled wine cellar built into his kitchen island. All these perks and none of the guilt because I’m not after his money, y’all; I actually like him.

I spent Friday glowing and then suffering through another first date and then back to glowing. By Saturday, I was anxiously awaiting his call. And he called and said, “I can’t wait to see you again. As soon as possible, please.”

Are you picking up what I’m putting down? He likes me.

Which is good because I like him. He’s Mister Me, afterall. And I think we all know I’m a big fan of me.

    … … … What about us?? LOL!! 😉

Congrats, this guy sounds like a winner… I’ve always wished I could date some sort of quasi version of myself.

There’s no better feeling than knowing someone genuinely likes you… okay, maybe one or two feelings better… but i think you get my drift!

    (Was this an eHarmony guy?)

I love that glow that comes after a spectacular first date and is compounded exponentially when he calls and asks to see you again. Sigh.

So exciting and incredibly happy for you! And the “As soon as possible please” is adorable and I’m glad you connected so well. And the wine cooler doesn’t hurt either.

me too. this time i retook the survey and gave the most honest answers, instead of what i judged to be the “most datable” answers… seems to have worked.
